Yesterday was our anniversary. Yeah Us. I decided to make my hubby a card. He likes that way more than store bought. I also made some Christmas cards for a swap.

Belated Birthday Cake & Christmas Ornaments
Tyler baked a cake last night. It is butter pecan with chocolate icing. Yummy. He has said that he wants to be a chef. He is a teenager and will probably change his mind a million times by the time college roles around. The cake mix was left over from my birthday. Tim was supposed to bake it but couldn’t because the roast was in the oven. The picture is a little blurry. He was being goofy. So this is the only good one I got.
I made these two Christmas ornaments today for a swap partner. I hope she likes them. They had to be handmade. I hand stitched the beads on and hand stitched them close.
The Christmas tree is a dark green felt with glitter on it. It is hard to tell from the picture.
Angel & Gingerbread Man Felt Christmas Ornaments
I am in a swap were I have to make two Christmas ornaments made out of felt. I searched the internet looking for ideas. I came up with an angel and gingerbread man. Over all they weren’t too hard. The hardest part was turning them the right way after I sewed them. I had to leave the hole for turning in the gingerbread man larger than I wanted to. So he is stitched up on the left leg. I used wooded beads for the eyes and belly. I thought I would use white rick rack for the trim but I didn’t have any. So the next best thing was to hand stitch the icing. I think he definitely has that handmade look. The angel has some yarn glue to her head for hair and golden wings. I would say the gingerbread man is roughly 4 inches long and the angel is almost 3 inches long.
These will be mailed to my partner who by the way lives in Ireland.
Today was Joshua’s last soccer game for this year. They tied 2-2. It was fun but we froze our buns off. It was 47 degrees at 8am. Burrrr.
Fabric Postcards, a Tote Bag, and Greeting Cards
I have been slacking in posting pictures of the fabric postcards I received this month. I received a wonderful hand embroidered one from Brenda. She doubts her skills but I think it is perfect. Much better than I would do.
She also sent me a tote bag she made. The pink fabric is one of my favorites. It will get a lot of use carrying my groceries.
Rhonda in TX sent me a fabric postcard with a hurricane Ike theme. Too cute. The boys love it.
I also got this lovely fabric postcard from Vee in WA.
I also got some 2 1/2 inch fabric strips from a swap I host on Swap-Bot. Aren’t the lovely colors?
Here is a card that my Gramma Geri made and sent to me. She is so creative.
Today while I was on the phone with a friend I made this greeting card. It is blank on the inside. I haven’t decided who I will send it to or if I will sell it on ETSY. The print is fabric ironed onto the card. I added the ribbon on the side and glued a button and it looked finished to me.
I know I have my hand into too many buckets. This is what having ADD does to you. You can’t stay satisfied for more than 15 minutes with doing one thing.
189th Post
Only 11 more post to go before my 200th post. Yippee. I am going to have a give away. I think I am going to pick more than one winner. I have a few ideas in mind.
Have any of you swaps heard of www.swap-bot.com? It is a pretty neat place. You can join 5 swaps at one time. So far I have been in a 5 inch charm swap, a book mark swap, and a nine patch swap. I have received my goodies. I started two swaps. A fabric postcard swap and a 2 1/2 inch fabric strip swap. Some of the swaps are international. It is a good way to make new friends. Just thought I would share this with all my sewing friends. It’s not just for fabric. Go have a look and see.
A Baby Doll Named Hope
First I just have to say that this is my 174th post, so it won’t be much longer until I have my 200th post give away. Hum what shall I give. Gotta think of some thing good.
I have been playing around with making different patterns for a baby doll. Here is what I have come up with so far. I have named her Hope. As in hoping for a better tomorrow for all our babies. She measures roughly 9 1/2 inches tall and the bottom measures about 6 inches wide. The print I used for this one is a cat print. The cats have wings.
Let me know what you think. I think that depending on what color the fabric is will determine the color of her hair. I left the yarn in a loop so that it wouldn’t unravel. Of course if it unravels it might look more like curly hair. Just some things to think about.
Fabric Book Mark Instructions
Okay here is my latest quick and easy endevor. Fabric book marks.
I cut a scrap peice of fabric 4 1/2 x 6/1/2 inches. Folded it in half length wise right sides together. Sew across the bottom and up the side. Turn it inside out. Use a pen or chop sticks to press out the corners. Cut a piece of heavy card stock or a manila folder into a 1 7/8 inch piece. The length will need to able be at least 6 inches. Insert the paper into the bookmark. Cut off the excess paper. Turn the raw edge into the book mark and sew it closed. I used a heavy duty needle and some embroidery thread to add tassels to the end of some of them. You could also quilt them with a machine and a heavy duty needle.
Fabricmom1 on Etsy.com
I set up an Etsy account this week. I have been wanting to for a while. I figured maybe I should try to make a little money off my hobby. I have put 20 items on in the past few days. Today I made my first sale. I was so excited I had to run in the other room and tell my hubby. I have so many ideas and not nearly enough time to do what I want to do. The wheels are turning.
Dotee Doll
I have been seeing these cute little dolls around the internet. So I found some instructions on how to make them. This is the first one I have made. It is okay. I am not thrilled with it. I think I am going to like it more if she has hair.I did not have time last night to embellish her a lot either. I think these will make great Christmas gifts or gifts for people who have been sick. You never know I may send one to a Fat Quarter winner.
He is the website of the lady who started the Dotee Doll. Her name is Dot. She makes beautiful dolls.
Here is a video of instructions on how to make one if you are interested. They are on another ladies blog called Smiles and Sunshine.
